    Description

WWII German Mauser Long Bayonet with Scabbard and Frog. Ricasso is marked "Aesculap" over a crown, over a scepter with a snake wrapped around it and on the reverse is "Aesculap-Werke Jetter & Scheerer Tuttlingen", a rare maker of bayonets (they stopped in 1941) and are known for making medical/surgical equipment. This bayonet is one of a few made with a split nut handle. Everything is tight with minor wear. The blade is straight, unsharpened but the tip is very sharp, no nicks, and a spot of finish wear on the tip area. Lock button is functional. The black enameled scabbard is solid with no dents but does have flaking paint spots with surface rust scattered throughout. The leather frog shows typical wear with light crazing throughout, stitching is tight, and overall it is stiff. Leather washer is intact. Length of the blade measures 9 13/16" (1" wide x 3/16" thick spine), length of the bayonet is 14 1/2", overall in the scabbard it is 15 7/16", and the frog alone is 8".
